MEF Enrichment Grants 2023-24 Overview


Mission Statement

Moreland Education Foundation (MEF) Enrichment Grants fund educational, enriching, and community building opportunities in the Moreland School District to support all areas of student learning. 

Vision Statement

MEF Enrichment Grants are intended to enhance existing curriculum and pilot innovative programs that may be modeled by others in Moreland School District (MSD) to increase student success and community engagement.

Goals

  • To fund programs that enrich student learning and engagement.

  • To fund programs that are consistent with Moreland School District’’s strategic goals.

For example, Family Engagement, Student Engagement, Community Building

For example, Enhancement of Existing Curriculum, Piloting New Curriculum, Project Based Learning

Health and Wellness

For example, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Physical Health Promotion, Student Safety

Please Note: The MEF Grants are not intended for current expenditures by the district, MEF, or Home and School Clubs.  For example; basic/general classroom supplies, regular curriculum, or equipment normally provided by the district would not be eligible for this grant.  This is an opportunity to pilot or enhance a program. 


Eligibility

  • Staff, students, parent volunteers and guardians who are either employed by, or enrolled in MSD. 

  • All applicants must obtain the site principal’s approval prior to applying. 

  • Students must have an adult sponsor to assist with the application and execution of the grant.  

Timeline

  • Spring 2023

      • Application Deadline: February 12, 2024

      • Applications will be presented and voted on at the March MEF board meeting.

  • Grantees will be notified of the board's decision within the week after the MEF board meeting.

  • Funding will be made available within 2 weeks of approval of the grant application. 

  • Projects must be completed within the school year that funds are requested. 

  • Recipients are required to publicly credit MEF for their funding and must provide a brief emailed report upon completion. 

Funding Process:

  • Funding is paid directly to the contractor supplying the services or the retailer selling the equipment or supplies necessary to complete the funded project, not directly to the applicant.

  • Funds may also be provided to the school’s HSC/PTO for distribution.

  • Contractors receiving $600 or more per calendar year will need to submit a W-9 for payment. 

Budget:

  • $30,000 in total funding for Moreland in 2023-24

  • Funding for a single grant can be $50 up to a Maximum of $5,000.

  • May request supplies, materials, and fees specific to the grant program/project.
    (Funds are not intended to supplant supplies/materials that should be provided by MSD.)

  • May request stipends if the project requires considerable instructional time or training. 

  • Non Title I schools will be limited to a maximum of $5,000 in funding per school year. 

  • Multiple schools may also collaborate to apply for grant funding. The total grant funding will be proportionately applied to each school and count toward the school funding cap.

  • Groups or Departments not associated with a specific school - such as MOT, counseling services, etc. - may apply for a maximum of $2,000 during the school year.

Evaluation:

Proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the MEF Grants Committee.  If the total sum of funding requested by the grant applicants exceeds the funding available, projects at a Title I School will be prioritized.
