Moreland Film Festival

We look forward to showcasing the talent of Moreland School District’s middle school students and local opportunities for them to learn more in our local public high schools!

Submission Guidelines:

  • Movies should be created by students.

  • Movies should be under 5 minutes

  • Movies must not include clothing inappropriate for school, cursing, violence, dangerous stunts, hate, or bullying

  • MP4 format?

  • At least one person who worked on the film must be in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade at a Moreland school.

  • No Copyrighted Material - this includes music and images! Your script must be your own creation.

  • Films must be your own creation with little or no help from an adult. This includes writing, filming, and editing.

  • Include a title and credits.

  • Videos MUST be submitted by September 26, 2025.

 When making videos think about the following:

  • A Halloween theme will be appreciated, but is not required.

  • Adding background music and sound effects makes for a more interesting movie.

  • Adding text, captions or title screens can add a lot to sharing your story.

  • Use fast motion, slow motion, or reverse footage to mix things up.

  • A movie can be made from narrating a collection of still images.

  • There are all different types of short movies to be made. For example: interviewing someone interesting, interviewing a stuffed animal, creating a documentary about a pet, shooting video of something interesting or scenic, mounting a camera on your dog, stop motion with clay or toys, animation, get creative!

Film options:

  • Animated - drawings only

  • Stop Motion - photographs for movement

  • Live Action - people moving and talking

  • Documentary - telling true stories, with recreations

  • Moc-umentary- fake stories meant to be funny

  • Mixed media - any mixture of above list

  • Music video - action aligning with a song (song must be public domain or original)

  • Educational - teach people something new

  • Fiction - made up stories

  • Non-Fiction - real true stories

  • Public Service Announcement - promote a cause you care about

  • Poetic - illustrate a poem
