Music in Moreland, a sub-committee of the Moreland Educational Foundation, was formed in 2003 when the instrumental music program in the Moreland School District was cut due to the California state budget crisis. MiM consists of parents and community members dedicated to restoring and sustaining the award-winning instrumental music program in the Moreland School District. Since 2004, MiM has raised and contributed over $270,000 to help pay for teacher salaries and music program expenses. Most of these funds have been in the form of donations from music parents and friends.
MiM's main fundraiser each year has been the annual Moreland Night at the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose. That changed this year, in December of 2008 MiM hosted John Nakamatsu in concert at Arch Bishop Mitty High School raising over $15,000.
For the 2006-07 school year, MiM/MEF applied for and received the eBay Champion-a-Charity grant. Funds from this grant were used to purchase supplies for the district music program.
All parents of instrumental music students in the Moreland School District are members of MiM. If you would like more information or are interested in volunteering, please contact the MiM Chairperson.
