NO Library Specialists?
It is hard to imagine our schools without Library Specialists. Our school libraries cannot be open without them. Let's take a closer look at what a Library Specialist does for our children and what we have lost.
A Librarian Specialist manages the school's collection of books, including:
- Checking out books to students and teachers
- Buying new books to fulfill the collection
- Organizing the library
- Tracking and managing outgoing and incoming books
- Teaches our children how a library is organized and how to find information--this is a lifelong skill!
- Instills the love of books by reading to our children, by teaching them about authors and illustrators, and by making reading fun!
- Supports school curriculum by tying it to the reading programs
- Assists with student research projects
- Arranges authors to visit with our children, to inspire writing and reading and to show that authors are real people and an attainable profession
- Organizes Book Fairs, which also generate free books for our libraries
- Works on the Accelerated Reader Program--This guided reading program matches kids to appropriate books to increase reading proficiency.
Without our Library Specialists...
- Our schools' fine collection of books will start to deteriorate, become disorganized and outdated, and eventually be lost
- We need our Library Specialists to act as teacher of the library system, inspirer of reading and writing, assignment advisor and director, and educator to our children
How can you help?
Please donate now. We need $196,000 as soon as possible to bring our Library Specialists back to our District schools. That equates to $100 per student. Don't forget to specify Libraries on the memo portion of your check. Remittance envelopes are in all school offices. Donations are tax-deductible . You may contact your school's MEF representative or mail a check to:
