Latimer Elementary

Grants awarded in 2015-2016

6th grade MATH PBL Night

Latimer elementary was awarded a grant to the 6th grade class that did a Project Based Learning(PBL) unit where they planned and conducted a Family Math Night for TK-5 students and their families. They planned and ran a variety of stations and centers with hands-on activities using cards, dice and dominoes. The money was used to purchase supplies and make the kits that the students could take home and play.

Grants awarded in 2014-2015

Engineering and Science Mobile Museum Event

Latimer elementary was awarded a $1005 grant to have an  “Engineering and Invent” festival at the school.

During this festival students will rotate through 10-12 hands-on stations where they will step into the shoes of engineers as they investigate, experiment, and develop solutions to real-world problems. Stations include: hydraulics, wind turbines, circuitry, wobble bots, bridges, Keva planks, and bionix blocks. The event will create an engaging atmosphere that will excite our students as they experience science and engineering in an authentic manner.

Purchasing Latimer Lion Costume & 2 portable sound systems

Latimer elementary used the $2850 grant awarded by MEF to purchase a new Latimer Lion mascot costume to be worn during the school day and at school functions.  The use of this mascot will be motivating and engaging for our students and famiies and will help them feel a part of a strong, clearly identified school community.

In addition they also used the grant money to purchase 2 portable sound systems which would allow us to communicate clearly at outdoor spirit rallies, assemblies, during noontime activities and at parent events such as Back to School Night and Open House.
