As a result of your generous donations and time, MEF is able to help provide the following benefits to all of our students this school year.
- A Music Teacher for our 4th-8th grade Music Program
- A Computer Technician to support classroom and school site technology
- Salaries for 4 Electives for our middle school students at MMS & EDS
- This year’s JiJi license at each school
- Multiple School wide Lawrence Hall of Science Assemblies for Anderson, Baker, Country Lane, EDS and Payne
- 5 New Computers for each of our 6 schools
Thank you again to all who donated and helped with the fund drive. It is inspiring and humbling to witness the generosity of our Moreland Community.

In the Moreland School District student achievement is a priority. Our district boasts two California Distinguished Schools, a Golden Bell Award, and strong API scores. In 2010 Moreland schools had the highest API increase in all of Santa Clara County! Unfortunately there are no financial rewards for these remarkable achievements. The Moreland District, along with all other districts in California, faces uncertain state funding for the 2011-2012 school year and beyond. After much budget debate and negotiation, the state legislature ultimately decided to keep California funding for K-12 education flat for the time being. However, there is a very strong possibility that mid-year cuts to the budget could occur and have huge impacts on California schools.
How does all this effect Moreland Schools? We are starting the year off with a small decrease in spending per student, and the realization that significant cuts in funding may occur during the school year which would require some big changes to our schools.
With tentative funding hanging over our heads, it is vital that we remain diligent in letting our representatives know that education is a priority and that we continue to support our schools.
It is no coincidence that school districts with strong educational foundations (Palo Alto, Saratoga, and Los Gatos to name a few) supported by steadfast parents continue to thrive during difficult times. With your support, the Moreland Educational Foundation (MEF) gets stronger as do our schools. A donation to MEF is not only a financial investment in excellent schools, but also a personal commitment to your child’s education.

Thank you for your continued support!
Town Hall Meeting Held to Discuss Impact of Governor's Budget on Moreland Schools
Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 2:24PM MEF hosted a Town Hall meeting on Feb. 2nd to discuss what impact Governor Brown's budget will have on our schools. Our Superintendent Glen Ishiwata gave an in depth presentation of the situation that the district is in right now. While many newspapers have reported that Gov. Brown's proposed budget will spare any further cuts to K-12 education, what isn't well reported is the fact that it is dependent on an extension of a current tax that will expire in June. For K-12 funding to remain flat at the current level, the state legislature must vote by 2/3 to put a tax extension measure on the ballot in June and the measure must pass. If the measure does not pass, it would present a grim situation for all schools. The Town Hall meeting was very informative. There were a lot of thoughtful questions asked and the panel had some good discussions.

If you are concerned about state funding for our district, and want to voice your opinion about the budget or tax measure, right now is the most important time to contact your Representatives. Click here to see the contact information for Moreland area state representatives, and to see a sample letter you can send about the tax measure.
MEF is working closely with the Moreland School District to understand how we can best support our schools and mitigate the effects of past and potential future cuts. If you would like to get involved with MEF please join us at our next meeting, Monday Feb 16th, 7pm at the district office, or contact our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@MEFhome.org. Donations are always welcome. Click here to see our different donation options.
