What is MEF?

Who We Are
The Moreland Educational Foundation was founded in 1993 by an all-volunteer group of parents, administrators and local citizens. MEF supports programs in all six of Moreland School District schools.

Moreland Educational Foundation Mission Statement
To increase general financial support and/or provide additional resources for Moreland District Schools, whenever in the judgment of the directors of this Foundation, funding from public sources is inadequate to provide and maintain high quality educational opportunities, facilities and resources for students of our district.

To assist in the funding for development of new educational programs which promise significant contributions to the education of Moreland School District students.

To increase funding for programs normally provided by Moreland School District Schools for which public funding is for any reason inadequate or unavailable.

To purchase or contribute special equipment to Moreland School District Schools, or to replace existing equipment for which funding is not available.

Music in Moreland
MiM was created when the Moreland School District was forced to cut funding for instrumental music programs in our schools. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 5:00pm in the Moreland Middle School band room.
For more information contact the MiM chairperson.

The Moreland Educational Foundation (MEF) was founded in 1993 by an all-volunteer group of concerned Moreland School District parents, administrators and local citizens. Our primary goal is to provide supplemental financial support to the schools in our District. Our areas of focus are technology, math, science, music, reading, and to assist in the development of new educational programs which offer significant benefits to our students.  MEF also wishes to ensure the quality education that makes our area such a desirable living location is consistently delivered.

Our Goals & Purpose

  • To provide general financial support for Moreland District Schools, whenever in the judgment of the Directors of this Foundation, funding from public sources is inadequate to provide and maintain consistently high quality educational opportunities, facilities and resources for children of our District.
  • To assist in the funding for development of new educational programs, which promise significant contributions to the education of Moreland School District students.
  • To provide funding for programs normally provided by Moreland District Schools for which public funding is, for any reason, inadequate or unavailable.

Current Focus

These next few years are going to be devestating to education in California.  The State's current planned cuts to Moreland over the next two school years (2009-2010 and 2010-2011) will be over $4.5 Million dollars!
In fact, research shows that Moreland School District funding per student, ranks far below both the national average and the California average. The sad news is that this gap may yet increase. Thus, community funding of educational programs through the Moreland Educational Foundation (MEF) will play an even more critical role in maintaining the quality of our District schools.

The Foundation holds several fundraising activities throughout the year, including our Annual Pumpkin Patch and Haunted Trail in the Moreland Woods, the Annual Music in Moreland Fundraiser and our "Together We Can" March Donation Drive.  We invite our community to join with us in our efforts and enjoy the community spirit of our wonderful District.
